- There isn’t anything wrong with your system
- Windows 10/Microsoft Photos version 16.5… simply doesn’t support black images with transparent backgrounds while using a black backgrounded theme!
A typical response from a “Support Engineer” is:
There is a workaround but it involves editing the registry or you can go find other vendors to use:In order to understand the issue in a better manner, I would like to ask you a few questions.
1. What is the make and model of your computer?
2. Since when did the issue started happening?
3. Can you find an error code or error message on the screen?
4. Have you made any changes in settings prior to the issue?
5. Is there any other program causing the same issue?
I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it resolves the issue.
Method 1: Run SFC Scan
I suggest you to click on the below link and follow the procedure to run SFC Scan.

Method 2: Update drivers
Download and install the latest graphics drivers from your computer manufacturer website and check if it resolves the issue.
I hope the issue will be resolved. If not, please reply with the details and updated status. We will be happy to assist you accordingly.
Thank you.
A solution to use Windows’ old Photo viewer. Yes, it does exists if you upgraded from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 and should be immediately available. If you conducted a fresh install then it is still there but you have to make it available for use. How long will it be available, don’t know.
How to activate the old Photos Viewer (regedit)….. You should know the typical warnings about mucking around in the registry:

OR if you don’t mind messing with your theme you can do the following as suggested by “Townfield” (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 5b0?page=4)
Going back to pre-Win8 it used to be possible to change the SYSTEM colours of nearly every element of the Window - specifically the window canvas. I just went and looked at the Win10 THEMES and chose the High Contrast WHITE BACKGROUND option. Hey Presto! the PHOTO application now has a white background and transparent .png files display OK. The rest of the display is completely garish, but that is a different matter.
Turns out this is not strictly a PHOTO program issue, rather a general Win10 issue that one cannot (apparently) select specific colours for individual components of the window, particularly in this case the canvas colour.
